A Home for Logistics Experts

“To me, Stream seems like a home for excellence.”

My mentor and friend, Justin Foster, bestowed this wonderful compliment on us in 2018 and we have embraced it ever since.

Now, I know that claiming to be a home for excellence can be interpreted as boastful or arrogant, but that is not the purpose. The purpose is to set high standards for ourselves and those we work with. Performing quality work is unbelievably rewarding and we are chasing that satisfaction every day.

So, what does it mean to be a home for excellence?

The source of Stream Logistics’ excellence is complex. It certainly starts with our Stream Team, who are all driven, smart, and caring, but it extends much wider than just us. To be defined as excellent, we need every character of Stream to ooze with excellence.

Without amazing people, excellence wouldn’t be possible. During our interview and recruiting processes, we place very little value on the candidate’s experience. Instead, we assess the quality and characteristics of the individual. We look for people who care about the quality of work they perform. People who love investing in others. People who hold themselves to high standards. With a building full of quality people, our baseline performance will automatically lean towards excellent. However, outstanding performers still need proper systems and processes in order to achieve excellence.

Every process at Stream is designed to enhance the talent of the individuals. We begin with world-class training designed to make hospitality, service, and logistics expertise second nature. While most companies build training around “how”, we built our training around “why”.

Excellence is not possible if the purpose and vision are not clear.

After completing four weeks of formal training, new team members are injected into our team-oriented logistics processes. Our dispatchers work in teams. Our developers work in teams. Our leaders work in teams. And yes, even our sales reps collaborate as teams. Beautiful alchemy is created in a team environment. The sum of the parts becomes greater than the whole. In a team setting, individuals can simultaneously be leaders and learn from each other while making clients and carriers feel abnormally supported because of the team overlap. This team approach magnifies the excellence of individuals.

Even with incredible team members and effective processes, we could not achieve excellence without our partner carriers. We don’t own trucks, so our ability to vet and qualify carriers defines the supply chain experience for our clients. We filter new carrier partners by reviews, safety scores, insurance policies, and insurance provider ratings. This tight filter increases the chances of working with a quality carrier who cares about their performance as much as we do.

Once they become partners, we internally rate and prioritize our carriers based on communication, performance, and overall experience. Exceptional carriers are rewarded with more business and subpar carriers are blocked from future usage.

With excellent carriers, excellent processes, and excellent team members, the supply chain excellence formula is almost complete. The final element is you – excellent clients. All the other elements are negated if our clients are not excellent, as well.

So, what defines an excellent shipper?

We believe the fundamental factor is high standards. If you believe transportation and freight services are commoditized, you won’t hold high standards for your partners. You will tolerate mediocrity because you don’t expect excellence, which can have deterimental effects to your overall supply chain

On the other hand, if you take pride in your projects, and if you believe that we should be as good at our project management capabilities as you are at yours, then you are likely an excellent candidate.

We don’t beg for business and we don’t work with just anybody. Our resources are valuable and we only work with people who hold high standards for themselves and their partners. If cost is your primary consideration on your logistics project plan, it’s probably not a good fit. If performance, caring, and reliability are your primary considerations, we would love for you to enhance our home for excellence.
