Operating Hours, Restricted Travel, and Holiday Restrictions
Depending on the load size and length, there are specific restrictions to follow. For oversized loads, nighttime travel is not allowed. Those larger loads are only permitted to travel during the daytime. The movement of trucks within Florida can happen one-half hour before sunrise up until noon Saturday and Sunday. All vehicles that are compliant with permits and regulations are unable to move during certain weather events.

These events may include snow, ice, and fog. Other instances where conditions hinder a drivers' view of other drivers and pedestrians within 500 feet will disallow them from moving. Some limitations for all oversize load travel revolve around holidays. Specifically, travel is not allowed during New Year's Day, Independence Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
Signs, Flags, and Lights Requirements
Signs, flags, and lights are essential when transiting oversize loads or superloads to help promote ultimate roadway safety.
Signs
For all oversized loads surpassing 10 feet wide, an “OVERSIZE LOAD” sign is required on the front and rear of the truck in a way that does not prevent usage and visibility of headlights or license plates. This signage also applies to loads exceeding 14 feet tall.

Sign colors must include a yellow background and black lettering and should be 7 feet wide and 18 inches high. Sign lettering should be 12 inches high with a 1.5” brushstroke for optimal visibility.
Flags
A flag is required at each corner of a load measuring 18 inches, squared, and fluorescent orange or red. You should place flags on the escort vehicle’s roof at an angle of 40-70 degrees. Additionally, four flags should sit on all four corners of oversize loads, as well as on other overhangs.
Lights
In Florida, lights should be high set, emit a flash or strobe, rotate 360 degrees, and should be able to be seen from 500 feet away within normal weather.
Obtaining a permit
For single-use permits, they are valid for a total of 120 hours. Yearly permits vary from vehicle to vehicle due to the differences between each one. If an oversize load is 100,000 pounds or greater, drivers will need to obtain a Routing Authorization permit. These permit authorizations must remain in the vehicle at all times during a trip.
