Operating Hours, Restricted Travel, and Holiday Restrictions
Movement across any toll facilities is prohibited from noon on Friday to 9:00 a.m. on Monday. This also applies to all of I-95 from Baltimore to the Delaware line.

Any vehicle with loads exceeding 12 feet in width or 92,000 pounds can only travel from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as well as on Saturdays until noon when traveling on the Capital Beltway I-495, I-95, and Baltimore Beltway I-695. In addition, travel of vehicles over 14 feet wide is permitted only from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday until noon on any highway.

Operating hours are from one-half hour after sunrise to one-half hour before sunset, and Sunday travel is prohibited. Loads up to 150,000 gross weight, 13 feet wide, 14 feet 6 inches high, and 90 feet long may travel 24/7.

Oversize loads are prohibited from traveling on the six major holidays and holiday weekends, which include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Signs, Flags, and Lights Requirements
When moving oversize loads or superloads, flags, signs, and lights might be required to promote the safety of others traversing the roads.
Signs
If the vehicle and load exceed a width of 9 feet, front and rear, a “Wide Load” or “Oversize Load” sign is required. The sign must be at least 18 inches high and 7 feet wide on both the front and rear of the load. It must be printed on a yellow background with black letters with a brushstroke no less than 1 ⅝ inch wide.
Flags
You must place red or orange fluorescent flags during daylight hours, and they cannot be smaller than 18-inch squares. In addition, the flag must be fastened by at least one corner on a staff that is placed at the widest extremities.
Lights
A pair of red lights have to be displayed on any rear overhang that exceeds 4 feet, indicating the widest portion of the overhang, as well as one on each side.
Obtaining a permit
For a single trip, permits can be used one time and are valid for nine days. Multi-trip permits vary based on the vehicle and route. Annual permits may be obtained, but are vehicle specific and based on the route.
