Operating Hours, Restricted Travel, and Holiday Restrictions
Oversize vehicles can travel during the day, starting one half-hour before sunrise and going until one-half hour after sunset, seven days a week. Furthermore, loads not exceeding 10 feet wide with all other legal dimensions may travel at night on Interstate highways with the proper lighting.

Holiday travel is usually allowed for loads that do not require escorts, but ports of entry are not open, so be sure to check with the Port to pre-order a permit if you want to travel on holidays.

There are no specific annual restrictions, but some restrictions may be imposed as necessary during the spring to account for snow and ice thaw.
Signs, Flags, and Lights Requirements
Signs, flags, and warning lights are often required when moving oversize freights or superloads for the safety of other vehicles and drivers on the road.
Signs
All oversize loads must display an Oversize Load sign on both the front and rear of the vehicle.

Dimensions of the sign should be at least 5 feet wide and 10 inches in height with a yellow background and black letters no less than 8 inches tall and 1 inch in width. In addition, if traveling with a heavy haul load, the pilot car(s) must also display a bumper or roof-mounted “Oversize Load” sign that is visible from both the front and rear of the vehicle.
Flags
Fluorescent red safety flags need to be placed on any overhand extending beyond any side of the trailer. If there is an overhang longer than 4 feet, the end of the overhang must be flagged during the day or lighted at night.
Lights
If night running is allowed for the vehicle you’re moving, amber clearance lights are required on each front corner, and red clearance lights are required on each rear corner of the load. If applicable, the overhang must be illuminated at night. A revolving amber light, amber strobe, or two-way flashing amber lights that are at least 4 inches in diameter should be mounted on the vehicle.
Obtaining a permit
Wyoming oversize permits are valid for five days. An extension of up to another 120 hours (5 days) may be granted upon showing the permittee that weather, road conditions, or a mechanical failure of the vehicle prohibited completion of the original permitted trip during the initial five-day period.

Permits are obtained from Ports of Entry by the driver. The driver must call ahead to the Port/Scale at least one hour before arrival and obtain a clearance number. Failure to do this will result in up to a $500 fine and a 24-hour shutdown.

To get in touch with the Port of Entry for a permit, you can call (307) 777-4376 or fax (307) 777-4399. You may also apply online at the following link https://jweb.dot.state.wy.us/oversize_weight_application/
