Operating Hours, Restricted Travel, and Holiday Restrictions

  • Permits will outline time restrictions from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in all major cities, including: Houston
  • Dallas
  • Fort Worth
  • Austin
  • Lubbock
  • San Antonio
  • Beaumont
  • Vidor
  • El Paso
  • Wichita Falls 

City or county curfew times may also apply and are listed on the permits. Travel is permitted on major holidays, but restrictions can apply depending on the dimensions of the load.

Operation is permitted from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset, including Saturday and Sunday. Vehicles that exceed 10 feet in width, a legal height of 14 feet, or 100 feet long within legal limits of front and rear overhang can travel through the night only on the Interstate system. Vehicles that are overweight only are permitted continuous movement. 

Movement is prohibited when visibility is less than 2/10 of a mile or when road conditions are hazardous.
